Sven William "Wille" Löfqvist (born April 12, 1947 in Gävle ; † October 23, 2016 ) was a Swedish ice hockey goalkeeper and official.

Career

William Löfqvist began his career as an ice hockey player at Strömsbro IF , for whose professional team he made his debut in Division 1 , the then top Swedish division, in the 1967/68 season . Then the goalkeeper moved within Division 1 to Brynäs IF , with whom he participated in the newly founded Elitserien from the 1975/76 season . With the Brynäs IF he won the Swedish championship six times in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1976, 1977 and 1980 . He himself received the guldpucken as player of the year in Sweden in 1972 . As the goalkeeper with the lowest goals against goals and the best catch rate, he made a significant contribution to winning the championship in 1980. Following the 1982/83 season , he ended his career at the age of 36.

For the 2011/12 season Löfqvist took over the position of team manager at his home club Brynäs IF and was able to win the Swedish championship title straight away with the team in this role.

International

For Sweden Löfqvist took part in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , where he won the bronze medal with his team. He was also in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1971 , 1973 and 1976, and at the Canada Cup in 1976 . At the World Championships in 1971 and 1976 he and his team won the bronze medal, and at the 1973 World Cup, the silver medal.
