Peter Michael Hjälm (born March 23, 1963 in Södertälje ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current coach .

Career

Michael Hjälm began his career as an ice hockey player at MODO Hockey , for whose professional team he was active from 1981 to 1984 in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish league. Then the attacker moved to IF Björklöven , with whom he won the Swedish championship in the 1986/87 season . Following this success he returned to MODO Hockey, for which he spent another four years in the Elitserien. For the 1991/92 season , the two-time Olympic participant joined the Rögle BK from the second-rate Division 1 . With the team, he immediately achieved promotion to the Elitserien. After he had to accept relegation to Division 1 with Rögle in the 1995/96 season , he ended his career at the age of 33.

Between 2008 and 2012 Hjälm worked as a trainer in the junior division of Rögle BK.

International

For Sweden , Hjälm took part in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1981 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 1982 and 1983 . At the U18 European Championship in 1981 he won the bronze medal with his team.

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1985 World Championships and 1986 World Ice Hockey Championships, as well as the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and 1988 in Calgary . At the 1984 and 1988 Winter Games he won the bronze medal with Sweden and the silver medal at the 1986 World Cup.
