Roger Hägglund (born July 2, 1961 in Umeå ; † June 6, 1992 ) was a Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Nordiques de Québec in the National Hockey League from 1977 to 1992 .
Career
Roger Hägglund began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with IF Björklöven , for whose professional team he made his debut in Division 1, the second Swedish division, in the 1977/78 season. With his team, he rose straight away to the Elitserien , in which he was Årets Junior, the best Swedish junior player, in the 1978/79 season . In the 1981/82 season , the center was runner-up with Björklöven. For the 1983/84 season he was obliged by his league rivals Västra Frölunda . Subsequently, his transfer rights were sold in July 1984 by the St. Louis Blues , who had already selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 1980 in the seventh round as a total of 138th player, sold to the Nordiques de Québec . In the 1984/85 season he came to a total of three inserts for Québec in the National Hockey League , but spent the rest of the season with their farm team Fredericton Express in the American Hockey League , for which he gave five templates in 34 games.
In the summer of 1985 Hägglund returned to his hometown club IF Björklöven. With this he became Swedish champion in the 1986/87 season . After he was runner-up with the team again in the following season , he was relegated to Division 1 with Björklöven in the 1988/89 season . The Swede remained loyal to the team in the following years and played for them for another three years in the second Swedish division. He died on June 6, 1992 at the age of 30 as a result of a traffic accident. His jersey number 23 has not been awarded in memory of him at IF Björklöven since then.
International
For Sweden , Hägglund took part in the junior division of the U18 European Junior Championship in 1979 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 1981 . At the U20 World Cup in 1981 he was world champion with his team. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1982 and 1983 World Championships .
