Zabrzeg ( German Zabrzeg ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality Czechowice-Dziedzice in the Powiat Bielski of the Silesian Voivodeship , Poland .
geography
Zabrzeg is located in the Auschwitz Basin ( Kotlina Oświęcimska ), on the Vistula about 10 km northwest of Bielsko-Biała and 40 km south of Katowice in the Powiat (district) Bielsko-Biała.
The village has an area of about 1400 ha . In 1955, 182 ha of the Goczałkowice Reservoir was flooded.
Neighboring towns are Goczałkowice-Zdrój in the north, the city of Czechowice-Dziedzice in the east, Ligota in the south, Bronów in the southwest, and Chybie in the west.
history
The village is located in the Olsa area (also Teschener Silesia , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).
The place was first mentioned in a document as Zabrzech around 1525 . The name means za ( behind ) brzeg [iem] ( the bank ) [the Vistula].
Politically, the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , the feudal lordship of the Kingdom of Bohemia , since 1526 in the Habsburg monarchy .
After the abolition of patrimonial it was from 1850 a municipality in Austrian Silesia , district and judicial district Bielitz . In the years 1880 to 1910 the population increased from 1277 in 1880 to 1598 in 1910, there were predominantly Polish-speaking (between 96.1% and 97.2%), also German-speaking (3.4% in 1880) and Czech speakers (1.5% in 1900). In 1910 98% were Roman Catholics, 30 (1.9%) Jews, there were 2 Protestants.
A Catholic church was built in 1782.
In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Zabrzeg came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
In 1955, 182 ha of the Goczałkowice Reservoir was flooded.
From 1975 to 1998 Zabrzeg was part of the Katowice Voivodeship .
