Rodrigo Laviņš (born August 3, 1974 in Riga , Latvian SSR ) is a former Latvian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract as an assistant coach at Dinamo Riga in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Rodrigo Laviņš comes from the offspring of HK Pardaugava Riga . In 1994 he went to North America and initially played in the East Coast Hockey League for the Raleigh IceCaps and Tallahassee Tiger Sharks . He also played a few games in the Colonial Hockey League for the Muskegon Fury . During the 1997/98 season he went on the ice for both Las Vegas Thunder in the International Hockey League , and for the Tacoma Sabercats in the West Coast Hockey League .
In 1998 Laviņš returned to Europe and played in the following two game years for teams from Sweden and Finland : Jokerit Helsinki , AIK Solna , HPK Hämeenlinna and Ilves Tampere . Before the 2000/01 season he was signed by the Augsburger Panthers , for which he completed 46 games in the DEL . He then moved to the first Russian league, the Super League , to Molot-Prikamje Perm , for which he scored ten points in 43 games. The season 2002/03 Laviņš spent at HK Dynamo Moscow , for whose second team he first ran up in the Pervaya League . In the middle of the season he was appointed to the first team and reached the Super League playoffs with this. After this success Laviņš returned to his home country and was signed by HK Riga in 2000 . With his new team he became Latvian champions in 2004 and 2005 .
In 2005, Laviņš was signed by the Swedish first division club Brynäs IF , who played 99 games in the Elitserien . In the summer of 2007 he moved to Metallurg Novokuznetsk , but returned to Sweden after 15 appearances in the Superliga and Perwaja Liga, where he received a contract with Södertälje SK . Laviņš has been under contract with the newly founded KHL participant Dinamo Riga since 2008 . In the 2008/09 season he was team captain of Dinamo Riga, then until 2011 assistant captain . In the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons Laviņš was only used irregularly, but still won the Nadezhda Cup with Danoimo in 2013 . In June 2014, at the age of 39, he ended his professional career and joined the semi-professional HK Kurbads a month later .
