The Donald L. Tucker Center (full name: Donald L. Tucker Civic Center at Florida State University ) is a multi-purpose hall in the US city of Tallahassee , capital of the state of Florida . The hall in Leon County is named after the former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and Ambassador of the United States to the Dominican Republic , Donald L. Tucker.
history
Only one block southeast of the main campus of Florida State University , the then is Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center inaugurated in November 1981st The building got its current name in 2004. The cost of the sports arena amounted to 33.8 million US dollars . In October 1998 renovation work began in the u. a. 34 luxury suites and 468 club seats were set up between the upper and lower tier . A restaurant called Spotlight Grille offers 450 seats with a view of the arena and a video cube with four large screens was hung in the middle under the hall roof . Scoreboards for the scores have been installed in the corners of the hall. The upper tier was rebuilt to improve visibility, additional changing rooms were built and a new sound system was installed. The work was completed before the 2000/01 basketball season began.
Florida State Seminoles , the Florida State University men's and women's basketball teams, have been using the hall since it opened . From 1997 to 2001 it was the home of the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks ( ECHL ) ice hockey team ; the arena football team of Tallahassee Thunder from af2 wore their games in the arena from 2000 to 2002. Also brief was the guest appearance of the indoor soccer team of the Tallahassee Scorpions from the EISL , which only existed in 1997 and 1998 .
In addition to the basketball games of the Florida State Seminoles , z. B. concerts, conventions , ice shows, trade fairs , rodeos , circus or monster truck races take place. The Center Theater with 6,000 seats is located under the Donald L. Tucker Center . It serves u. a. for smaller concerts, sermons or musical performances . In recent years, during the Tallahassee Broadway Series, the musicals Les Misérables , Riverdance - The Show , Cats , Chicago , Fosse and Rent have been seen.
