Career
The 1.85 m tall defender began his career with the Swift Current Broncos in the Canadian Junior League Western Hockey League and then moved to league rivals Prince Albert Raiders in 1993 , before becoming 173rd in the seventh round of the Buffalo Sabers in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft was selected from the National Hockey League .
However, the right-handed shooter never completed an NHL game for the Sabers, but played for various farm teams in minor leagues until he was transferred to the Ottawa Senators for a draft pick by the Detroit Red Wings , who had now signed him as a free agent . For the Senators, the Canadian finally completed his first games in the highest North American ice hockey league in the 2000/01 season , where he was able to establish himself as a regular player until 2004. During the 2003/04 season , Hnidy was transferred to the Nashville Predators , further NHL stations up to his move to the Boston Bruins in January 2008 were the Atlanta Thrashers and the Anaheim Ducks . After the defender had spent the 209/10 season with the Minnesota Wild , he found no new team for the following season.
In February 2011, Hnidy was signed by the Boston Bruins for a try-out, with whom he won the Stanley Cup at the end of the season. Since he had not played enough games, the NHL refused to ask the Bruins to also engrave Hnidy's name on the trophy. However, he received a Stanley Cup ring from the Bruins and was also featured on the official team photo. At the end of August 2011, he declared his active career over at the age of 35.
