Philippe "Phil" Lakos (born August 19, 1980 in Vienna ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league since 2009 . His older brother André is also a hockey player.
Career
As a junior player, he played until 2000 with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in the Ontario Hockey League .
This was followed by engagements in the East Coast Hockey League with the Jacksonville Lizard Kings , Toledo Storm , Florida Everblades , Reading Royals . In 2002 he made a detour to Austria and appeared twice in the play-off for the Vienna Capitals . In 2003 he played again in the ECHL for the Augusta Lynx and Arkansas RiverBlades .
Starting in the 2004/05 season , the 1.93 m tall defender played for the Vienna Capitals for four years before moving to HC Innsbruck . After a year in Innsbruck, he returned to the Vienna Capitals. With the capital city, he was Austrian champion in 2005 and 2017 .
In February 2014, Vienna Capitals President Hans Schmid announced that Lakos' shirt number 4 would become a retired number , i.e. it may no longer be given after the end of his career or when he switched to another club.
International
Lakos began to represent Austria in international tournaments early in his career - he took part in the U18 European C Championships in 1997 and 1998 and the U20 Junior C World Championships in 1999 and 2000 . In the latter tournament, he made it to the B group with the Austrian U20 team.
On April 13, 2002 Lakos made his debut in a 4-1 draw in a friendly against Germany in Rosenheim in the Austrian national team . He competed with this at eight world championships: in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2007 , 2009 and 2011 he played with the team from the Alpine country in the top division. After relegation from the top division, he played at the 2006 and 2008 World Championships in Division I and made it to the top division with the national team. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006 and in Vancouver in 2010 . He played his last international match in the 2012/13 season.
