Career
Zalewski spent his junior years with the Syracuse Stars in the Eastern Junior Hockey League from 2009 to 2010 and the Vernon Vipers in the British Columbia Hockey League between 2010 and 2012. With the Vipers, the striker was able to win the Fred Page in the 2010/11 season Cups , the Doyle Cup and the Royal Bank Cup . At the age of 20, the American finally enrolled at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute . There he celebrated his NHL debut at the end of the 2013/14 season . In the following three seasons - his original two-year contract had been extended by one year in the summer of 2016 - the American played mainly on the Canucks farm team Utica Comets in the American Hockey League and was only used sporadically in the NHL.
For the 2017/18 season , the striker moved to Europe to the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League , where his brother Steven Zalewski had been under contract since the 2015/16 season . After a season together in Straubing, the brothers left the Tigers in the summer. Mike Zalewski switched to the Cologne Sharks within the DEL .
In August 2019, the Vienna Capitals announced the commitment of Zalewski.
