Brick Gate Tower (2007)

The Ziegelpfortenturm is a former defense tower in Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony . The 21 meter high tower was part of the medieval city fortifications of Münden and was built as a wall tower of the city wall .

The brick gate tower is located on the south side of the medieval town center. In this area the city wall ran roughly in a west-east direction. The next towers or systems of the city fortifications are the ferry gate tower around 75 meters to the west and the Mündener Rotunda around 100 meters to the south-east . The tower jumps out of the street with the existing buildings on Fuldabrückenstrasse. On the opposite side of the street there is a historic production building of the Haendler & Natermann company . When the street was widened for traffic reasons at the beginning of the 20th century, the sidewalk became too narrow for pedestrians. Therefore, around 1930 the tower received two 2.6 meter high openings for a footpath in the lower area . Access to the tower used to be on a plot of land north of the old town on Radbrunnenstraße. Today it is walled up. The tower can only be entered via an outside metal ladder through an entrance at a height of 6 meters. Inside the tower has two levels made of wood.

The tower is named after the brick gate in the city wall. Brick Street used to run towards this gate , in the extension of which a path led to a brick factory in Bonaforth .
