history

Company building and ferry gate tower , around 1850

The company emerged from the trading company of Johann Georg Haendler, which had existed in Münden since 1788, and which his brother-in-law, Friedrich August Natermann from Zellerfeld , joined in 1825 . Long-distance trade goods such as coffee, sugar and tea as well as mining products such as metals from the Harz were originally distributed. When he joined the company, Natermann began producing foils made of lead and tin, which were used to pack snuff .

Carl Georg August Natermann, the son of the co-founder, acquired the 24.5 meter high ferry gate tower as a medieval city wall tower in 1848 in order to use it as a scrap tower after being raised by 11.3 meters . For the production of shotgun pellets, a casting room was set up on the top floor, from which liquid, hot lead was poured through a sieve and, when falling from a great height, round (shot) pellets were formed. The production facility, also known as the Hagelturm , is now a work museum. From 1849 bullets were produced for hunting purposes. Other branches were a lead pipe foundry and a rolling mill. As early as 1888, the local newspaper Mündenschen Nachrichten described the company as the most important in the town. Later Haendler & Natermann continuously developed into a packaging specialist.

In 1970 the family business was sold to Metallgesellschaft AG .

The long-standing production of hunting and sports ammunition (H & N-Diabolo air rifle pellets) was separated from the company in 1991 and outsourced to the independent H&N Sport GmbH with 42 employees. In January 2008 it was sold to a Bavarian entrepreneur.

Since 2009 the company has belonged to OEP ( One Equity Partners ) as part of Constantia Flexibles , the Wendel Group was the main owner from 2014 to October 2017, and the Multi-Color Corporation has been the main owner since November 1, 2017.
