The Thin Tower is an 8.8 meter high defense tower in Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony . It belonged to the medieval city fortifications of Münden and was a wall tower in the city wall .

description

The tower is on the Bremer Schlagd , not far from an arm of the Fulda . To the north, the tower borders the Alten Packhof, built in 1837 . On the south side of the tower is a remnant of the approximately 8 meter high city wall.

The thin tower was first referred to as thin tower in 1449 and is considered to be the oldest remains of fortifications in Hann. Münden. Its masonry was made with clay mortar . The tower is not shown on the historical city views of Münden from 1584 by Frans Hogenberg and 1654 by Merian . The Merian engraving only shows the neighboring warehouse, which stood on the site of the old packing yard.

From 1830, a cooper used the tower as a work area, which was located in the rear of his property on Kiesau Street. When he built a window into the brickwork of the tower, which is still there today, he got into trouble with the city. The tower later went into private ownership. In the 20th century the tower came back into the ownership of the city. The city building authority had it restored.
