Mario Fischer (born May 5, 1989 in Vienna ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been playing for the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league since 2011 .
Career
Fischer comes from the offspring of the Vienna Ice Lion Club , for whom he played in the Austrian U20 league as a 14-year-old. In 2004 he moved to Finland, where he worked in Rauman Lukko's youth department. After four years in western Finland, he moved to the east of the country to Savonlinnan Pallokerho and played the first games of the season in the second-rate Mestis for his new club . But in the course of 2008 he returned to Austria, where he was initially in the second team at EC Red Bull Salzburg , but soon also in the Austrian ice hockey league . In 2010 and 2011 he was Austrian national champion with the bulls . After the second championship title, he moved back to his hometown Vienna , where he has since played for the Vienna Capitals , with whom he won his third Austrian championship title in 2017.
For the 2019/20 season , Fischer was appointed captain of the Vienna Capitals .
International
Mario Fischer took part in the U18 World Championships in 2006 and 2007 and the U20 World Championships in 2008 and 2009 in Division I for Austria. He and his team achieved promotion to the top division in 2009 when he was voted the best player on his team.
He made his debut in the men's national team on November 12, 2010 in a 4-3 win over France in Székesfehérvár . At the 2014 World Cup, he was in Division I for the first time in the Austrian World Cup and was promoted to the top division with his team. However, he was unable to stay there the following year and had to accept immediate descent with the Alpine countries. He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
