In the 2015/16 season he again won the championship title with Salzburg, but missed the play-offs due to a joint injury.

In April 2019, the EHC Linz announced the commitment of Cijan, for whom he collected 9 scorer points in 51 games. In August 2020 he moved to the Vienna Capitals within the Austrian league .

Alexander Cijan took part with the U18 national team in the World Championships for this age group in 2010 , 2011 and 2012 , with promotion to Division I being fought for in 2011. Cijan contributed seven goals and five assists to this success. The bronze medal was won in 2012.

He played with the U20 national team at the 2013 and 2014 World Championships , most recently as the team's assistant captain, each in Division I.

He made his debut for the men's national team on November 6, 2014 in a 3-2 win in the friendly against Belarus in Ljubljana, Slovenia . He was also a participant in the 2015 World Cup in the Top Division, in which Austria was relegated to Division I.
