Kyle Baun (born May 4, 1992 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since June 2019 .

Career

After his junior years in Canada, Kyle Baun went to Colgate University in the United States . After a total of three seasons in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Baun signed an entry contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League (NHL) in March 2015 . In total, however, he only made five games for the Blackhawks.

For two seasons Baun played for the Blackhawks' farm team, the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League (AHL). For the season 2017/18 he was in exchange for the Norwegian Andreas Martinsen in the franchise of the Montreal Canadiens transferred, but played back only in the AHL for the Rocket de Laval . In February 2018, he and Tomáš Plekanec were transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs , who in return gave up Rinat Walijew , Kerby Rychel and a second-round vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft to the Habs .

In the summer of 2018, Baun made the leap to Europe and signed a contract with the Belfast Giants in the British Elite Ice Hockey League and became champions with the Giants in his first season. In June 2019, the Vienna Capitals from the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga announced the commitment of Baun.
