Career

Zalewski began his ice hockey career in 2002 at the New Hampton School in New Hampton in the US state of New Hampshire . After going to Northwood High School in Lake Placid , New York in the summer of 2003 , where he scored 66 points in 40 games in his senior year in high school , the striker began his studies at Clarkson University in the summer of 2004 . At the same time he ran for their university team in ECAC Hockey , a league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Shortly before was the then 17-year-old in the NHL Entry Draft in 2004 in the fifth round at the 153rd site of the San Jose Sharks have been selected even though he had been until then no use in a higher category, junior league. At the university, Zalewski was immediately one of the top performers in the team and was always among the best scorers. In the 2006/07 season he won the championship title of the ECAC with the team and the following year he was one of the best strikers in the entire league, which earned him a call to the First All-Star Team of the ECAC. With the exception of his last season, he was able to continuously increase his offensive production.

Following the college season, the Power Forward signed his first professional contract in the organization of the San Jose Sharks, whereupon he was appointed to their farm team from the American Hockey League . With the Worcester Sharks he played in the rest of the season of the AHL seven games in which he scored six points. From the beginning of the 2008/09 season , the striker was part of the regular squad of the Worcester Sharks. After keeping up well with 39 points in 75 games in the regular season, he was completely out of shape in the playoffs. In twelve games he collected only one assist. The following season, Zalewski also began in Worcester but was first appointed to the NHL squad of the San Jose Sharks in mid-October. On October 12th, he made his debut against the Phoenix Coyotes .

In February 2011, Zalewski was together with Jay Leach in a barter transaction to the New Jersey Devils given, in return, the Sharks were the two attackers Michael Swift and Patrick Davis . In August 2011, Zalewski received a contract extension until 2013 and subsequently played mostly with the Albany Devils in the AHL. After his contract with the Devils expired, he moved to Europe for the first time and was signed by Lukko Rauma from the SM-liiga .

On June 17, 2015, Zalewski was signed by the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) for the 2015/16 season .
