Hans Schmid (entrepreneur)

Hans Schmid (born June 2, 1940 in Villach ) is an Austrian entrepreneur. In the past he worked as an advertising entrepreneur and media editor and is now a large winemaker and owner of the Vienna department store Steffl .

Life

The son of an innkeeper couple financed his studies as a student trainee at the University of World Trade in Vienna and was so successful as an advertising consultant for the Kronen-Zeitung during his studies that he decided to go full-time in the advertising business. In 1972 he founded his own advertising agency, which he led into a partnership with the internationally active GGK agency . The latter was taken over by him in 1992 and sold for a rumored 40 million euros in 2000.

Schmid's involvement in the media world was more changeable. He successfully ran the Zeitgeist magazine Wiener , which he founded in 1980 , with the former central organ of the SPÖ , the deficit Arbeiter-Zeitung , which he took over in 1989 , Schmid says he had around 70 million schillings (around 9 million after adjustment for inflation) until it was discontinued in 1991 .
