Peter White (born March 15, 1969 in Montreal , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who has played in the National Hockey League for the Edmonton Oilers , Toronto Maple Leafs , Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks, among others .

Became famous for the Center in particular as a player of the Philadelphia Phantoms in the American Hockey League , where he numerous relevant franchise records held like most games played, most goals scored and most points scorer holds. White also won the Calder Cup twice . For his services in the American Hockey League, the Canadian was honored with the induction into the AHL Hall of Fame in 2013 .

Career

White, who was initially active from 1984 to 1986 for the lower class Lac St-Louis Lions in the QAAA , then played two seasons for the Pembroke Lumber Kings from the Central Junior A Hockey League . With the team he participated as a two-time CJHL champion, in whose title he was instrumental, twice unsuccessfully in the Centennial Cup , in which the team took third place. In the 1987/88 season in particular, the center operated at an outstanding level; The left-handed shooter scored 90 goals and 135 assists in just 56 CJHL games. At the end of the season, he was accordingly voted the most valuable player of the season. The Canadian then began studying at Michigan State University , where he spent the next four years. During this time he won the Central Collegiate Hockey Association championship twice and was once selected as the most valuable player in the tournament, having already been elected to the CCHA's all- rookie team in his first season . Already after his rookie season, the Edmonton Oilers selected him in the fifth round of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 92nd position .

In 1992, he finally made his professional debut when White first for AHL - Farm Team Cape Breton Oilers aground. With the team he immediately won the Calder Cup . In the following season, the 1993/94 season , the Canadian was used for the first time in the NHL team of the Edmonton Oilers and posted eight points in 26 games. However, he spent most of the season in the American Hockey League with the Cape Breton Oilers, where White quickly became a reliable scorer and finished the regular season with 70 scorer points as a successful player on the team. In his third professional season he missed the finals with the Cape Breton Oilers, but won the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the best point collector of the regular season with a record of 36 goals and 69 assists in 65 encounters . He was also elected to the league's Second All-Star Team.

The 1995/96 season began White with the Edmonton Oilers, before he was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs in December 1995 together with a four-round suffrage in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Kent Manderville . For the Leafs, he only completed one NHL game and played the rest of the season in various minor leagues . In August 1996, the Canadian signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers as a free agent . The following two seasons he played exclusively in the American Hockey League with the Philadelphia Phantoms , where White in 1997 and 1998 again won the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the best scorer in the league with 105 points each. After Bill Sweeney in 1962 and Paul Gardner in 1986, White was only the third player in AHL history to end the season as the most successful scorer twice in a row. In addition to other personal successes such as a renewed appointment to the Second All-Star Team in 1997, the Calder Cup was won the following year with the Philadelphia Phantoms. White, who was considered one of the most attacking players in the American Hockey League in the 1990s, spent two more seasons wearing the Phantoms.

In the 2000/01 season he became a regular with the Philadelphia Flyers, for which he played 80 games over the season and scored 25 points. For the following season he signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, where the Canadian initially also ran regularly in the NHL and was later increasingly active in the AHL farm team with the Norfolk Admirals . A swap deal in March 2003 with the Philadelphia Flyers brought White back to the American Hockey League with the Philadelphia Phantoms. When the team won the Calder Cup again in the 2004/05 season, the left-shot player played on loan with the Utah Grizzlies and was therefore not part of the winning team. The center ended his career at Helsingfors IFK in the Finnish SM-liiga .

White holds the Philadelphia Phantoms franchise record for most assists (78) and points (105) in a regular season, as well as most games (431), goals (153), assists (319) and points (472) in a career.
