Corey Potter (born January 5, 1984 in Lansing , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who plays on the position of defender .
Career
Corey Potter began his career as a hockey player in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , for which he was active from 2000 to 2002 in the junior leagues of the North American Hockey League and the United States Hockey League . He then attended Michigan State University for four years , for whose ice hockey team he was also active in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . During this period, the defender was selected in the fourth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 122nd player by the New York Rangers . For their farm team Hartford Wolf Pack , he played from 2006 to 2010 in the American Hockey League . In his first year as a professional he also came to 43 missions for the Charlotte Checkers from the ECHL . For the New York Rangers himself, however, he was only on the ice in eight games in the National Hockey League in four years .
On July 16, 2010, Potter was hired as a free agent by the Pittsburgh Penguins . In the 2010/11 season he played only one game for their NHL team and was instead a regular in their AHL farm team Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . The following season he was signed by the Edmonton Oilers , where he immediately belonged to the leading players in the NHL team.
In the course of the NHL lockout in 2012, Potter went to Europe and played for the Vienna Capitals in the EBEL. He joined the Boston Bruins in March 2014 via the Waiver . This did not extend his contract at the end of the season, so Potter joined the Calgary Flames in September 2014 . In the following year he completed only 31 competitive games, 25 of them in the AHL with the Adirondack Flames . After the 2014/15 season, his contract was not renewed, so he was signed in September 2015 by the Arizona Coyotes , who subsequently used him in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons .
In February 2016, Potter was handed over to the Nashville Predators and was henceforth active for their farm team, the Milwaukee Admirals . For the 2016/17 season he accepted an offer from the Kölner Haie from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), for which he ran on the ice in the following three seasons.

For the USA , Potter took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2002 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2004 . In both tournaments he won the gold medal with his team.
