Dane Byers (born February 21, 1986 in Nipawin , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Manchester Storm in the British Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) since 2017 .
Career
Byers played as a teenager with the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League . After he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the second round in 48th place by the New York Rangers , he played two more seasons in the WHL.
At the end of the 2005/06 season he ran for the first time in the Rangers farm team , the Hartford Wolf Pack , from the American Hockey League . The striker spent the following two seasons as a regular in the Wolf Pack squad. At the end of the 2007/08 season Byers was appointed to the Rangers squad for the first time. He missed the next game year 2008/09 almost completely due to a serious injury. Due to some injuries in the Rangers squad, he was finally called up again in October 2009 in the NHL squad, where he scored his first goal in the NHL against the Minnesota Wild .
On November 11, 2010, the Rangers sent him to the Columbus Blue Jackets, in return Chad Kolarik moved to the Rangers. On February 28, 2011, shortly before the trade deadline , the Blue Jackets and Rostislav Klesla exchanged him for Scottie Upshall and Sami Lepistö from the Phoenix Coyotes .
On July 11, 2011, Byers signed a two-way contract for one year as a free agent with the Columbus Blue Jackets . There he came to eight NHL missions and spent the rest of the time with the Falcons in the AHL. Subsequently, the Edmonton Oilers signed him, but they only used him with the Oklahoma City Barons before he joined the Hershey Bears in 2013 , for which he was active as team captain for two seasons. After the 2014/15 season Byers moved to Europe, where Tampereen Ilves from the Finnish Liiga took him under contract as a trial. After this trial contract expired, he moved within the Liiga to the Pelicans in Lahti .
In May 2016 he moved to the Kölner Haien in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). Despite a suitable performance, the contract was not extended because another type of player was sought in the club.
In 2017 Byers moved to the British Elite Ice Hockey League for the Manchester Storm .
