Craig Weller (born March 17, 1981 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with ERC Ingolstadt in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Craig Weller was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the fifth round as a total of 167th player by the St. Louis Blues , for which he however never played. First he began the 2000/01 season in the ice hockey team of the University of Minnesota Duluth , which he left after six games to sign a contract with the Kootenay Ice from the Western Hockey League on January 7, 2001 . With the Ice in 2002 he won both the President's Cup for WHL championship and the Memorial Cup for the championship winner of the Canadian Hockey League .
After this success, the New York Rangers signed the attacker, but for the following five years only for their farm teams , the Hartford Wolf Pack from the American Hockey League , and in the 2002/03 season additionally for the Charlotte Checkers from the East Coast Hockey League played. In the summer of 2007, the right-handed shooter signed a contract with the Phoenix Coyotes , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League the following season . After only one year, however , he left the franchise again to play for their league rivals, the Minnesota Wild .
In the 2008/09 season he came to 36 appearances for the Minnesota Wild, scored one goal and collected three points. Weller played the entire 2009-10 season in the American Hockey League and began the season with the Houston Eros . On October 18, 2009 he was transferred to the Boston Bruins , where he subsequently held a regular position in the Providence Bruins farm team . Shortly before the trade deadline , he was transferred to the Florida Panthers on March 3, 2010 , where he again failed to make the jump to the NHL team. In November 2010 he signed a contract with the Cardiff Devils in the Elite Ice Hockey League . With these, the defender had an excellent playing time and scored 54 points in 45 encounters. In addition to being nominated for the League's First All-Star Team, Weller was named Defender of the Year and Player of the Year in the Elite Ice Hockey League. At the beginning of June 2011 he agreed on a one-year contract with the EC VSV from the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga . He was then signed by the ERC Ingolstadt DEL club .
