Kevin John Sawyer (born February 21, 1974 in Christina Lake , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and coach who worked for the St. Louis Blues , Boston Bruins , Phoenix Coyotes and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in played the National Hockey League .

Career

Kevin Sawyer first played in the 1991/92 season for the Grand Forks Border Bruins in a lower class Canadian junior league. In the same season he was also active for three other teams. For the 1992/93 season, the Canadian made his debut for the Spokane Chiefs from the Western Hockey League and ran in 62 games of the regular season on the ice, where he posted seven scorer points and spent 274 minutes in the penalty box. The player used in his preferred role as Enforcer was named team captain of the Spokane Chiefs for the 1994/95 season . In the same season he led the Western Hockey League with 365 penalty minutes in 54 regular season games. Since he had never been drafted , Sawyer became available as a so-called free agent after completing his junior years and finally signed a contract with the St. Louis Blues in late February 1995 . In the 1995/96 season he made his debut for the Blues in the National Hockey League and completed six encounters, denied most of the season but in the AHL - farm team in Worcester IceCats .

After a year in the organization of the St. Louis Blues, the left shooter was transferred to the Boston Bruins . This put the winger on the farm team at the Providence Bruins , for whom he regularly appeared. Also in the organization of the Dallas Stars he failed to fight for a place in the NHL squad, so the Canadian played the entire season with the Michigan K-Wings in the International Hockey League . An unsuccessful return to St. Louis followed, with Sawyer not completing a game for the team and instead being active for the Worcester IceCats. Another NHL station in his career were the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1999/2000 season , before Cummins signed as a free agent with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in July 2000 . This initially used him mainly in the farm team at the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks , before Sawyer first received regular game practice with an NHL team in the 2001/02 season . The following season was limited to just 31 missions, as the Enforcer had suffered a concussion in an encounter against the Los Angeles Kings . In August 2003 he officially declared his career ended.

After his career as an active player, Sawyer worked from 2004 to 2006 as an assistant coach for the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League.
