Espen Knutsen (* 12. January 1972 in Oslo ) is a former Norwegian ice hockey player and current - trainer -funktionär, as well as in his career from 1988 to 2005, among others, for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League played Has.

Career

Espen Knutsen began his career as an ice hockey player with Vålerenga Oslo , for which he was active for a total of six years in the elite series from 1988 to 1994 , and with which he was Norwegian champions three times in a row in 1991, 1992 and 1993 . In addition, he was selected in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft in the tenth round as a total of 204th player by the Hartford Whalers , for which he however never played. After three years with Djurgårdens IF from the Swedish Elitserien , the attacker made his debut in the 1997/98 season in the National Hockey League for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , who had previously received the transfer rights to Knutsen in 1996 from the resettled Hartford Whalers. After 19 games in the NHL, in which the center scored three goals for Anaheim, he returned to Sweden, where he played for another two seasons for Djurgården, with whom he was Swedish champions for the first time in 2000 .

Then Knutsen moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets , for which he played the following four seasons in the NHL. The 13-year-old viewer Brittanie Cecil died in the 2001/02 season as a result of a shot deflected by opposing defender Derek Morris . This was the only spectator death in all of NHL history. After the attacker was still in a game for Vålerenga Oslo in the 2003/04 season on the ice, where he had started his career, he ended his career in the 2004/05 season at his ex-club Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien.

After finishing his career, Knutsen entered the coaching business. From 2005 to 2008 he was initially an assistant coach at his ex-club Vålerenga Oslo before he took over the post as head coach for the 2008/09 season. In the 2009/10 season he was general manager for the club, and in the 2010/11 season he was both head coach and general manager.

International

For Norway , Knutsen took part in the junior division of the U20 World Junior Championships in 1990 and 1991 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the B World Championships in 2003 and at the A World Championships in 1994 , 1995 and 1997 and the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer .
