Jeffrey Michael Nielsen (born September 20, 1971 in Grand Rapids , Minnesota ) is a retired American ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Minnesota Wild between 1996 and 2001 Has. He is the older brother of Kirk Nielsen , who also played in the NHL.

Career

Jeff Nielsen began his career at the University of Minnesota . In the NHL Entry Draft 1990 was selected in the fourth round in 69th position by the New York Rangers . He then played another four years on the University of Minnesota team. He improved every year and led the team in his final season. Because of his good performance, he was elected to the WCHA Second All-Star Team in 1994. In the same year he was accepted into the farm team of the New York Rangers, the Binghamton Rangers . He completed three seasons with the Binghamton Rangers. During the 199697 season he reached 53 points in 76 games. He also made his NHL debut that year, playing two games with the New York Rangers.

Then Jeff Nielsen signed a contract with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . He played the 1997/98 season with the Mighty Ducks and on the farm team, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks . In the following season, Nielsen earned a regular place in the NHL with the Ducks. He came to 80 games and scored nine points. In the 1999/2000 game year he doubled his points and was appointed to the squad of the US national team for the 2000 World Ice Hockey Championship . There he finished fifth with the team. Nielsen was chosen in the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft from the newly formed Minnesota Wild franchise . He played one season for the Wild before retiring in 2001.
