Jonas Rönnqvist (born August 22, 1973 in Kalix ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current coach who has played for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the National Hockey League during his playing career . Between 2010 and 2014 he was head coach of Luleå HF from the Swedish Elitserien .
Career
Jonas Rönnqvist began his career in 1991 at the lower-class Swedish club Bodens IK . In the following six years he was a regular at the third division, before Rönnqvist was taken under contract for the 1997/98 season by Luleå HF from the Elitserien . In his debut season in the top Swedish league, the left-shooter scored 14 points for Luleå. The following season, the winger reached the semi-finals with the team in the playoffs, in which Rönnqvist was defeated by Luleå in five games to the eventual master Brynäs IF . In the 1999/2000 season he was the team's best scorer with 39 points in the regular season, along with Martin Hosták .
In the NHL Entry Draft 2000 Rönnqvist was selected in the fourth round at position 98 by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , who secured the rights to him. In his first season in North America, the Swede was mainly used in the National Hockey League for the Mighty Ducks, but also completed some encounters on the farm team for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in the American Hockey League . He completed the 2001/02 season entirely in Cincinnati and played with Ilja Brysgalow , Andy McDonald and Jason Williams . After the Mighty Ducks had not renewed his contract at the end of this season, the Swede returned to his home country and signed another contract with Luleå HF. There he completed three more seasons and then ended his career.
From the 2008/09 season, Rönnqvist pursued a career as a coach and was head coach of Almtuna IS from the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan until 2010 . After success with the team, he was committed to his ex-club Luleå HF before the start of the 2010/11 season and looked after its professional team until the end of the 2013/14 season.
International
Rönnqvist represented his home country at the 2000 World Cup . In the course of the tournament he came to seven missions and scored three points for Sweden. The team failed in the quarterfinals against Finland .
