Jonathan Hedström (born December 27, 1977 in Skellefteå ) is a Swedish ice hockey player . His cousin Fredrik Warg is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Jonathan Hedström began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of the Bolidens FFI. From there he moved to Skellefteå AIK , for whose professional team he was active from 1995 to 1999 in Division 1, which was then still second class. During this period he was selected in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft in the ninth round as a total of 221st player from the Toronto Maple Leafs . First, however, he stayed in his Swedish homeland, where he played from 1999 to 2002 for Luleå HF in the Elitserien . The Toronto Maple Leafs had already given him to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on June 25, 2000 in exchange for a sixth and seventh round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2000 . For this he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season , in which he remained free of points and punishment in four games. The rest of the season he spent with Anaheim's farm team , the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks , in the American Hockey League . In the AHL, he scored 14 goals in 50 games and provided 21 templates.

From 2003 to 2005 Hedström was each under contract for one year with the Elitserien participants Djurgårdens IF and Timrå IK , where he each played a leading role. He was then committed to the 2005/06 season again by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, where he achieved his breakthrough in the NHL on the second attempt. For the Californians he played a total of 82 games, in which he scored 13 goals and gave 15 templates. In the summer of 2006, the left-shooter returned to Timrå IK, where he was assistant captain for the following two years. He also began the 2008/09 season at Timrå in the Elitserien, before he moved to HK CSKA Moscow from the newly founded Continental Hockey League after only eleven completed games . For the Russian capital club, he completed 39 games by the end of the season, in which he scored one goal and eight assists. In the 2009/10 season , the former international was again on the ice at Luleå HF in the Elitserien.

For the 2010/11 season , Hedström signed a contract with the Finnish club Kärpät Oulu . For this he ran first in the pre-season in the European Trophy and then in the SM-liiga . In December 2010 he returned to Sweden, where he was signed by third division Asplöven HC . For the 2011/12 season he returned to his ex-club Timrå IK in the Elitserien.

At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he was under contract with Piteå HC .

International

For Sweden , Hedström took part in the 2004 , 2005 and 2007 World Championships . At the 2004 World Cup, he and his team won the silver medal. He was also on the ice in numerous friendly matches for his country between 1999 and 2007.
