Anthony Charles "Tony" Tuzzolino (born October 9, 1975 in Buffalo , New York ) is a former Italo - American ice hockey player on the position of the center , which during his active career, among other things, nine NHL games for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , New York Rangers and Boston Bruins graduated from the National Hockey League . His brother Nick is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
After Tony Tuzzolino had played for several years for various teams in lower-class US junior leagues, including the North American Hockey League , the striker began studying at Michigan State University in the 1993/94 season . For their ice hockey team, the so-called Spartans , the right - shooter was active for four seasons in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . After Tuzzolino had only scored seven points in his rookie season , he managed to increase his points yield in the following three seasons. During this time he was selected in the fifth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft at a total of 113th position by the Québec Nordiques . After the franchise was relocated to Denver in June 1995 and renamed Colorado Avalanche , these continued to retain the NHL rights to the attacker. Since the Avalanche could not conclude a contract with Tuzzolino and the exclusive rights had now expired, he signed a contract with the New York Islanders as a free agent in April 1997 .
However, he was denied the leap into the NHL squad of the Islanders, so the offensive player was still during the 1997/98 season , on February 6, 1998, together with Travis Green and Doug Houda in exchange for Joe Sacco , Jean-Jacques Daigneault and Mark Janssens was transferred to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . For the Californians he finally made his debut a short time later in the National Hockey League , but this was his only NHL assignment for the Mighty Ducks. Tuzzolino spent the following two seasons mainly with their farm team , the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks , in the American Hockey League . During the 1999/2000 AHL season , the Mighty Ducks parked him on loan at Hartford Wolf Pack , with whom the striker won the Calder Cup for the first time in his career at the end of the season . Then the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim did not extend the striker's contract, so Tuzzolino joined the New York Rangers as a free agent in February 2001 .
For the Blueshirts , he played six NHL games without scoring a point. For the 2001/02 season , the US-Italian dual citizen received a contract with the Boston Bruins . As before in Anaheim and New York City , Tuzzolino came to the Bruins only very sporadically to NHL missions, while the offensive player in the jersey of the Providence Bruins ran regularly. For the following season he agreed on a contractual relationship with the Minnesota Wild , but was only active for their farm teams, in addition to the Louisiana IceGators from the East Coast Hockey League and the Houston Eros in the AHL. With the Houston Eros Tuzzolino added the second Calder Cup victory to the trophy collection at the end of the 2002/03 season after the success in the final series against the Hamilton Bulldogs . After starting the following season with the Binghamton Senators , the right-handed shooter decided at the end of 2003 for the first time in his career for a commitment in Europe and hired the Italian first division club HC Asiago . In the 2003/04 season he failed with the Venetians in the playoff finals against the eventual champions HC Milano Vipers .
Tuzzolino continued his career mainly in Italy and was hired for one season each with HC Bozen and SG Cortina . During the 2005/06 season, however, a short detour to the Swedish Elite Series to MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik followed . For the 2006/07 season the striker returned to the North American minor leagues and was on the ice in 14 games for the Flint Generals in the United Hockey League . During his further professional career until the summer of 2010, Tuzzolino was again in the service of HC Asiago and the Flint Generals, in between he was also involved with SV Ritten and in spring 2010 the attacker finally signed a contract with HC Eppan Pirates in the A2 series until the end of the season .
International
For Italy , Tuzzolino took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . The striker has been on the ice in four tournament encounters and made a name for himself in the statistics with one assist in the 7-2 loss to Canada . His 32 penalty minutes, all of which he received in the last preliminary round game against the Czech Republic, mainly due to a game misconduct penalty, were the most of the entire tournament. In addition, he achieved a plus / minus statistic of −1 and fired four shots on goal.
