The 2007-08 season of the Italian Ice Hockey Championship of Series A1 was held with a total of nine teams. The defending champion was SG Cortina , who did not make it into the playoffs this season. HC Bozen became the new champion .

Participating teams

Participants in the A1 series 2007/08

The field of participants remained unchanged compared to the previous season. The following teams competed in the championship:

mode

The nine teams initially played a double round trip against each other, which resulted in a total of 32 games per team. The field of participants was then divided into two groups, which played an internal simple round-trip round for the final placements. Before that, the points of the regular round were halved, but the counting was continued in the intermediate rounds. This was followed by playoffs with quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals, each of which was played in the best of five mode.

Basic round

The basic round was in many ways similar to the previous year. The reigning champions SG Cortina could not build on the previous year's success and landed far behind in eighth place. HC Bozen, which won the regular season last year, clearly missed this goal this year. With twenty wins from 32 games, SV Ritten was the measure of all things and secured the undisputed lead in the table. The SHC Fassa secured second place in the table this time after a disappointing previous season. Only in the last place there was no change. Asiago Hockey was again bottom of the table.

Intermediate round

Placement round

In the placement round, SV Ritten maintained its first place, although the Milano Vipers made up a lot of ground with four wins and two draws and were able to come within two points of the Ritten. Fassa lost five of the six matches and the best result was a draw against the Milano Vipers. At the end of the day, Bozen had a balanced record with three wins and three defeats and retained third place.

Qualifying round

The intermediate round lasted a little longer as five teams were playing for the remaining four playoff spots and one team was free in each round. Here, however, the SG Cortina put its weaknesses aside and finished fifth, tied with HC Alleghe, after the team had won five of the eight games and lost only one. Pontebba was similarly successful with only three defeats and five wins. Asiago, however, continued the dubious from the basic round. The season ended prematurely for the team without a win and with only two draws.

Playoffs

Quarter finals

As expected, the favorites from the top half of the table prevailed in the quarter-finals. While Cortina could not build on the good performances from the second round, and Fassa won the series without defeat, the Milano Vipers in particular had great difficulties with SG Pontebba and were even 1: 2 behind in the series. HC Pustertal and HC Alleghe said goodbye to the season with one victory each.

Semifinals

In the semi-finals, SHC Fassa faced leaders Ritten Sport. The excellent quarter-finals continued in the first semi-final game, when Ritten was only able to win the game in the penalty shootout. In the second encounter, Fassa dominated at will in front of their own audience and swept the Ritten with 8: 2 from the ice. When the third game in Ritten could also be won, it initially looked like an unexpected pairing of the finals, but Ritten found its way back to winning ways, initially regained its home advantage and finally won the decisive game 3-0 on its own ice with a sovereign 3-0 win the series.

The Milano Vipers lost their semi-final series against HC Bozen very clearly after the first game with 5-0 had led to a rather one-sided series. However, Bolzano found its way into the game better and better, initially equalizing on their own ice and finally defeating the Milanese in the third game just after extra time. Bolzano then used the matchpuck at the first attempt and secured participation in the finals.

final

For Bolzano, the final was a mirror image of the semi-final series. After Ritten had achieved a sovereign victory in the first game, they equalized in the series with a 4: 3 in the second game. With a narrow away win, the Bozen won the home right and used the matchpuck again on their first attempt on their own ice. They celebrated their 17th championship title and overtook SG Cortina, which had celebrated sixteen championships up to then.
