Leo Giuseppe Insam (born February 6, 1975 in Bolzano ) is an Italian ice hockey player who was last under contract with HC Gherdëina in the Italian A2 series .

Career

Leo Insam began his professional career with HC Gherdëina in 1992 . In the 1994/95 season he moved to Canada to the Nanaimo Clippers in the British Columbia Hockey League , where he played one season. He then played for three years at the highest level in Austria at the Klagenfurt AC (1996/97). Insam then came to Germany in the German Ice Hockey League for Düsseldorfer EG (1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons), where he scored 35 points in 82 games.

Insam returned to Italy for the 1999/00 season because he was signed by Asiago . In 40 competitive games he had 34 points (16 goals and 18 assists ). He then moved to the HC Milano Vipers . In four seasons he has won three Italian championships as well as the Italian Cup and the Supercup twice. From 180 games he could show 94 points.

In the last four seasons he was in the squad of HC Bozen and won another championship, once the Italian Cup and two more times the Supercup. From 2009 he played again at his first club, the HC Gherdëina . In November 2010 he decided to take a break due to back problems and ended the 2010/11 season early.

On January 31, 1994 Insam made his national team debut against France and was an integral part of the Italian team for many years . He is said to have an extremely hard slap shot .
