The 1978/79 season was the 45th season of Serie A1 , the highest Italian ice hockey division . Champion became the fifth time in the history of the HC Bozen .

The nine teams completed a common main round, the first-placed champion was. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
