The 1979/80 season was the 46th season of Serie A1 , the highest Italian ice hockey division . Champion was for the third time in the history of the HC Gherdëina club .

Initially, the seven teams played a common main round. The four best-placed teams qualified for the final round, in which the champions were played. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
