Levente Szuper ( Hungarian Szuper Levente ; born June 11, 1980 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian ice hockey goalkeeper who was last under contract in 2012 at HK Arystan Temirtau in the Kazakh ice hockey championship.

Career

Levente Szuper began his career in the 1996/97 season with the Hungarian first division club Ferencvárosi TC , with whom he won the Hungarian championship title straight away in his rookie year . Soon after, he moved to the German junior league with the Krefeld Penguins . In 1998, the goalkeeper moved to North America and played two seasons for the Ottawa 67’s , who selected him in the second round of the second round of the CHL Import Draft of that year, in the Ontario Hockey League , where he consistently performed well, even though he did had to share the Ice Age with Seamus Kotyk . In his first season in Ottawa he won the Memorial Cup with his team in 1999 . In addition, he received the FW "Dinty" Moore Trophy as a rookie with the lowest average goal conceded in the OHL. As early as 1999, he was spoken of as a promising candidate for the NHL Entry Draft , but this only came true in 2000.

There followed three seasons for the Saint John Flames in the American Hockey League , with which the Hungarian won the Calder Cup in the 2000/01 season . In 2000 he was selected by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round as the 116th drafted , but arrived in the NHL never to use, although the Left Catcher was a total of nine times set as a backup goalkeeper. In the 2003/04 season, he played for the Worcester IceCats in the AHL and the Peoria Rivermen in the ECHL , before returning to Europe and the Hungarian league for Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák .

In 2005/06 Levente Szuper played for the first time in the Italian Serie A , where he played for Asiago Hockey , but already switched to the DEL to the Füchsen Duisburg the following year and finally to the Malmö Redhawks in the Swedish Elitserien , where he was before the end of the season but could not enforce. The goalkeeper returned to Italy for the 2007/08 season, where he worked for HC Milano Vipers . In the 2008/09 season Szuper played for the Hungarian club Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian ice hockey league . In addition, he was also in the playoffs of the Hungarian league , which he could win with his club, on the ice. In the 2009/10 season , the goalkeeper ran for the Hannover Scorpions in the German Ice Hockey League , with whom he immediately became German champion as a substitute .

In October 2010 Szuper signed a contract with the Arizona Sundogs from the Central Hockey League for the 2010/11 season , where he was then a regular goalkeeper. In January 2012 he moved within the Central Hockey League to the Missouri Mavericks , for which he only played one game before joining the HK Arystan Temirtau from the Kazakh championship .

International

In the junior area Szuper took part for Hungary in the U18-B-European championships in 1996 , but when he was not yet used, in 1997 and 1998 .

With the Hungarian men's selection , Szuper took part in the C-World Championship in 1998 , the World Championships in Division I in 2002 , 2003 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2011 and 2013 as well as in the World Championships in the Top Division in 2009 , in which the Magyars for the first time 70 years back in the top division of world ice hockey. At world championships he was the first goalkeeper in Hungary to receive numerous individual awards. He was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament at the U18 European Championship in 1998 and the Men's World Championships in 2003 and 2005. In 1998 and 2002 he had the lowest goals against goals and in 2002 and 2008 the best catch quota of the tournament. In 2008 he also had the second best goal against goal after the Ukrainian Ihor Karpenko . In 2011, behind the Italians Thomas Tragust and Daniel Bellissimo , he achieved the third best goal against and the third best catch quota of the tournament. Also in 2013 he achieved the third best goals against goals against and the third best catch quota of the tournament, this time behind the Kazakhs Witali Kolesnik and the Italian Adam Dennis .
