Seamus Kotyk (born October 7, 1980 in London , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who last played in the Austrian ice hockey league at HC Innsbruck . Since August 2010 he has been working as a goalkeeper coach for Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds .
Career
Seamus began his career in the Ontario Hockey League with the Ottawa 67’s . In his second season for Ottawa, he was drawn in the fifth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in 147th place by the Boston Bruins , but never played a game for the team. Instead, he continued to play in Ottawa and won the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the team in the playoff.
On July 23, 2001, he signed as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks , where he worked for their farm team, the Cleveland Barons in the American Hockey League . In the 2004/05 season he moved to the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL and played some games for their farm team, the Rockford IceHogs .
On April 17, 2005, Kotyk became the only eighth goalkeeper in the AHL to score a goal in one game. He shot the puck into the empty goal of the San Antonio Rampage three minutes before the end of the game and sealed the 4-1 victory of his team, the Milwaukee Admirals .
However, Kotyk did not manage to assert himself in the minor leagues. He moved to Europe in 2006 and played five games for EHC Wolfsburg in the 2nd national ice hockey league before the then EBEL newcomer HK Jesenice signed him. With him, however, the team just missed the playoffs. Kotyk moved to league rivals HC Innsbruck for the following season , but where he was injured during the course of the season and has since been replaced by the Finn Mikko Strömberg . Also in the 2008/09 season Kotyk fell out injured for some time and was again replaced by Strömberg.
After the season, HC Innsbruck decided to withdraw from the EBEL and Kotyk's contract was not extended. He was then without a club until he was signed again by HC Innsbruck in January 2010.
