Jonathan Pittis (born January 25, 1982 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a former Italian - Canadian ice hockey player , who celebrated his greatest successes at HC Bozen in the Italian Serie A1 , with which he was twice Italian champion. His older brother Domenico was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Pittis began his career at the University of Michigan , for whose ice hockey team he played in the National Collegiate Athletic Association from 2000 to 2004 . He completed a total of 140 games in four years, in which he scored 76 points and received 116 penalty minutes. He was never one of the NHL - Franchise drafted and signed for the 2004/05 season, a contract with the Italian club AS Varese Hockey . At Varese he gained his first experience in professional hockey when he played 35 games in the A1 series and achieved 25 points and 50 penalty minutes. He moved to league competitor Asiago Hockey in 2005 , where he signed a two-year contract. At Asiago he managed to improve his points yield. He scored a total of 80 scorer points in 85 games for the club. In 2007 he left the club again and joined HC Bozen . Although he initially slacked off at Bozen with his performance, he was able to win several titles with the team within a few years. He won the Italian championship with Bolzano in 2008 and 2009, among others . The center scored a total of 46 points for Bolzano in 42 games in the 2008/09 championship season .

After the 2009/10 season , his contract with HC Bozen was not renewed and Pittis was initially without a club before he was signed by SG Pontebba in January 2011 . After the end of the season he went back to Canada and played two years in the Chinook Hockey League , a sub-league in the province of Alberta , before ending his career in 2013.

International

The native Canadian, who also has Italian citizenship, participated with the Italian national ice hockey team in the 2007 , 2008 and 2010 world championships in the top division . He scored two goals in nine games. In addition, Pittis played at the 2011 World Cup in Division I and contributed with one assist in four matches to the promotion to the top division. He also represented Italy at the qualifying tournament for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver .
