Maxim Vasilyevich Balmotschnych ( Russian Максим Васильевич Балмочных * 7. March 1979 in Lipetsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player , who during his playing career, among others, for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the National Hockey League has played.
Career
Maxim Balmochnych began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at HK Lipetsk , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Vysschaya League , the second Russian division, in the 1995/96 season . The winger then spent two and a half years at HK Lada Tolyatti from the super league , in which he also played two games for its league rivals HK Metschel Chelyabinsk . He was also selected in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as the 45th player of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . First he finished the 1998/99 season with the Remparts de Québec in the Canadian junior league QMJHL , before he played for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks , the Anaheim farm team , in the American Hockey League from 1999 to 2002 . For the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim itself, the Russian ran in the 1999/2000 season in six games in the National Hockey League , in which he gave an assist and received two penalty minutes.
For the 2002/03 season Balmochnych returned to the Super League, in which he received a contract with Severstal Tscherepowez . He then spent another season in the AHL with the Albany River Rats , before he was on the ice from 2004 to 2006 for his home club HK Lipetsk in the Wysschaja Liga. The left-shooter bridged the 2006/07 season at HK Dinamo Minsk in the Belarusian extra league . After he began the following season at Metallurg Novokuznetsk in the Super League, he finished it again at Dinamo Minsk in Belarus. The former Russian junior national player has been playing for the capital club since the 2008/09 season in the newly founded Continental Hockey League . At the same time, he played in his first two KHL years for Dinamo's cooperation partner HK Homel and HK Schachzjor Salihorsk in the extra league . For the 2010/11 season he returned to Belarus and went on the ice for HK Homel, before Balmochnych moved within the Belarusian extra league to HK Brest in the same year . Two seasons at HK Lipetsk followed before the Russian ended his active career.
International
For Russia Balmochnych took part in the junior division in the U20 Junior World Championships in 1998 and 1999 . At both tournaments he was appointed to the All-Star Team and won the silver and gold medal with his team. In total, he scored five goals in 14 games and provided eleven templates.
