Āris Aldis Brīmanis (born March 14, 1972 in Shaker Heights , Ohio ) is a former American ice hockey player of Latvian origin, who was last under contract with the Hanover Indians in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga .
Career
Brimanis was at Bowling Green State University during his junior years and was on the ice for their team in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the 1991 NHL Entry Draft , the Philadelphia Flyers selected the defender in the fourth round at position 86. A year after the draft, the right-shooter moved to the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League for one season with the Brandon Wheat Kings .
In the 1993/94 season Brimanis made his NHL debut, but played often in the American Hockey League with the Hershey Bears . The defender later played for other farm teams such as the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL, the Michigan K-Wings and the Grand Rapids Griffins International Hockey League , but he never played more than 17 games in a year with the Flyers.
For the 1999/00 season Aris Brimanis moved to the New York Islanders , for which he played 56 games in the second year. In the 2001/02 season , the American played for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and then moved to the St. Louis Blues . After the defender was mostly used in the AHL at the Worcester IceCats , he decided in the summer of 2005 to move to Europe. Brimanis played for two years with the Kloten Flyers in Switzerland and finally moved to the Hannover Scorpions in the German Ice Hockey League for the 2007/08 season , where he was German champion in the 2009/10 season .
In December 2011 Brimanis was signed by the Hanover Indians before Brimanis ended his career in 2012.
