Johann II von Heideck († June 3, 1429 at the Willibaldsburg in Eichstätt ) was Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt from 1415 to 1429.

origin

Johann II von Heideck came from the Swabian-Franconian dynasty of the von Heideck family . The eponymous place is Heideck , today a town in the Central Franconian district of Roth . He was the son of Friedrich I. von Heideck und Adelheit, a born Countess von Henneberg-Aschach .

Life

Johann II first appeared as Canon of Würzburg from 1383 , later he belonged to the Bamberg cathedral chapter and was provost from 1390. In the summer of 1422 he was a prince-bishop participant in the Reichstag in Nuremberg , where the action against the Hussites was discussed. During the Bavarian War he negotiated a ceasefire so that he could concentrate on fighting the Hussites. He was previously an opponent of Ludwig VII. His domestic policy was characterized by thrift, the bishopric became debt-free and free of pledges. He was buried in the Willibald Choir of Eichstätter Cathedral next to Hildebrand von Möhren .
