Gebhard III. from Graisbach
Gebhard III. von Graisbach († September 14, 1327 before Pisa ) was Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt from 1324 to 1327.
origin
Gebhard III. came from the family of the Counts of Lechsgemünd-Graisbach . The name is u. a. Graisbach Castle in the municipality of Marxheim , today part of the Donau-Ries district. He was the last of his line.
Life
Gebhard III. von Graisbach is attested as a canon in Eichstätt since 1295 , he probably had previously studied at the University of Bologna . As bishop he took the side of Ludwig the Bavarian , which he the resentment of Pope Johannes XXII. reaped and was excommunicated by him . In 1325 he founded the Weißenburg monastery in Bavaria . Gebhard III. accompanied Ludwig on his Italian campaign and, together with Emich von Leiningen , Bishop of Speyer , gave him the anointing to be King of Lombardy . Gebhard III. died of a plague-like illness in front of the besieged city of Pisa . He was buried in the monastery Chiesa di San Frediano in Lucca , his grave no longer exists. As the last of his line, he bequeathed the castles Gundelsheim and Graisbach to the diocese .
