David James "Dave" Karpa (born May 7, 1971 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and coach who played 576 games for the Nordiques de Québec , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, among others, in the course of his active career between 1988 and 2006 , Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers has played in the National Hockey League on the position of fullback .
Career
Dave Karpa began his career as a hockey player with the Notre Dame Hounds, for which he was active from 1988 to 1990 in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . He then played for two years for the team at Ferris State University . During this period, the defender was selected in the fourth round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 68 players by the Québec Nordiques .
For the Nordiques he made his debut in the National Hockey League towards the end of the 1991/92 season , where he remained pointless in four games. After three years in Québec, during which he was mainly on the ice for their farm teams from the American Hockey League , the Halifax Citadels and Cornwall Aces , the left shooter switched to the Nordiques' league rivals, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, during the 1994/95 season . In his three years in Anaheim Karpa always had a regular place with the Californians before he joined the Carolina Hurricanes in the summer of 1998 , for which he spent another three seasons in the NHL. It was followed by two years with the New York Rangers before he moved to the AHL club Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins for the 2003/04 season.
After only 29 games with his new team, the Canadian signed with Amur Khabarovsk from the Russian Super League , for which he gave a template in twelve games. For the 2004/05 season he returned to North America, where he initially ran up for the San Diego Gulls from the ECHL . The former NHL player ended his career after brief guest appearances with the AHL teams Syracuse Crunch and Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2006 at the age of 35.
In the 2015/16 season Karpa worked as an assistant coach in the Ontario Hockey League for the Flint Firebirds .
