Stéphane Fiset (born June 17, 1970 in Montreal , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played during his career between 1990 and 2002 for the Québec Nordiques or Colorado Avalanche , Los Angeles Kings and Montréal Canadiens in the National Hockey League .
Career
Stéphane Fiset began his career in 1987 in the Canadian Junior League QMJHL with the Victoriaville Tigres . In the 1988 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Québec Nordiques in the second round at position 24. He played the 1988/89 season in the QMJHL and was awarded the Trophée Jacques Plante in the summer of 1989 as a goalkeeper with the best goal average and was voted the best goalkeeper of the CHL .
At the beginning of the 1989/90 season he had his first six missions in the NHL , which were not very successful. He then completed the rest of the season in the QMJHL.
The 1990/91 season he spent mainly in the AHL with the Halifax Citadels , the Nordiques farm team . He was used three times in the NHL, but he still failed to win. In the years that followed, it was used more and more frequently. In the 1993/94 season he was number 1 for the Québec Nordiques for the first time. And in 1994/95 he led her to the playoffs .
In the summer of 1995, the Québec Nordiques moved to Colorado, henceforth the Colorado Avalanche . Fiset went to Colorado and started the season as a regular goalkeeper, but in December an absolute superstar was signed in Patrick Roy , who naturally claimed the position as number 1. Both shared this post, but in the playoffs they relied on Patrick Roy, who led the Avalanches to the Stanley Cup victory.
In June 1996 Fiset was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings . In the first season he shared the regular place in goal with Byron Dafoe . But in the 1997/98 season he was the sole number one. However, he kept falling out due to injuries, which is why he played far fewer games than other goalkeepers. In 1999/2000 he shared the goal with Jamie Storr . In the following season Fiset was injured and could not play for a long time. During that time, the team hired an experienced goalkeeper, Félix Potvin .
In the 2001/02 season , the Kings relied on Storr and Potvin as a goalkeeper team, Fiset was only used in the farm team in the AHL. In March 2002 he was transferred to the Montréal Canadiens , where he was used twice.
In September 2002 Stéphane Fiset announced the end of his career.
