Her first publication was in 1994 the non-fiction book In mijn gedichten kan ik wonen, Het bouwwerk als metafoor in Nederlandse literatuur , which, in collaboration with the graphic artist Lucile Moquette, deals with the symbolic importance of buildings in Dutch literature from the 12th century to the present day. The book was published for the 75th anniversary of the interior construction company Pepping BV from Loon op Zand -Kaatsheuvel. She then wrote two children's books: Schuilvinken (2002), a story about a boy who escapes from school because he is being teased there - a girl from his class follows him into a house in the forest - and Apekool & riddereer (2003), a fairy tale about a court fool who wants to become a knight. Their biggest success was the youth book Zeekorts (2006), translated into German: Sea Fever . In the 17th century a girl sneaks as a stowaway on a cargo ship of the Dutch East India Company that is sailing to Asia. The bitter poverty of the Dutch population and the cruelty of the officer class in the 17th century are described realistically. The book was nominated for the Thea Beckman Prize, which is named after the Dutch children's author Thea Beckman (1923-2004) and is awarded annually by the magazine Historisch Nieuwsblad for the best historical book for young people.

At the center of their stories are girls who have to find their role in a male-dominated world.
