Helmut Hoping

Helmut Hoping (* 1956 in Meppen , Emsland ) is a German Catholic theologian and professor of dogmatics at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau .

biography

Helmut Hoping studied philosophy , theology and education in Münster from 1976 to 1982 . He then worked at the University of Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in 1989 with a thesis on the doctrine of original sins based on Immanuel Kant . From 1991-1992 he carried out a research stay at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. In 1995 he was ordained deacon and completed his habilitation in Tübingen with a thesis on the relationship between philosophy and theology under Thomas Aquinas . From 1997 to 2000 he taught as a full professor of dogmaticsat the Theological Faculty of the University of Lucerne . From March to April 2004, he was visiting professor in the Theology Department at Boston College . Since 2000 he has been a full professor of dogmatics and liturgical science at the theological faculty of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau and was dean of this faculty from 2004 to 2008 . From 2008 to 2010 he was Managing Director of the International Graduate Academy of the University of Freiburg. From 2009–2011 he was chairman of the University Association for the Qualification of Young Scientists in Germany (UniWiND). 2006–2014 he was also theological advisor to the liturgy commission of the German Bishops' Conference .

He is a married Permanent Deacon and has two children.
