Dumitru Ivan (born May 14, 1938 in Bucharest , † June 17, 2015 ) was a Romanian football player .

Athletic career

Ivan played for Dinamo Bucharest in the early 1960s . In the Divizia A . Under coach Traian Ionescu , the lieutenant colonel of the Romanian Ministry of the Interior won the Romanian championship four times in a row between 1962 and 1965, including the double in 1963 by winning the Cupa României after a 5-3 final win over local rivals Steaua Bucharest . As a result, the defender played regularly in the European Cup and became a national player. After his debut for the Romanian national team in October 1961 in a 4-0 win over Turkey , he was then irregularly part of the starting lineup. In October 1964 he was part of the squad for the 1964 Summer Olympics ; in the final group game he came to his only tournament appearance in the 1-0 win over Iran . In the quarter-final game, in which the national team was eliminated after a 2-0 defeat against Hungary , he was not called up and did not play any further international matches at the end of the tournament . In his 12 national team appearances, he remained without a goal.

Between 1966 and 1969 Ivan ran for FC Argeş Piteşti before moving to West Berlin and ending his career with FV Wannsee .

Ivan suffered from diabetes and cirrhosis of the liver and died of illnesses in the summer of 2015 at the age of 77.
