Jeffrey Dale "Jeff" Shantz (born October 10, 1973 in Duchess , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 686 games for the Chicago Blackhawks , Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche in the National between 1989 and 2011 Hockey League on the position of the center . He was also active for a considerable part of his career in Europe, where he won national championship titles in Germany and Austria as well as the prestigious Spengler Cup .
Career
Shantz played during his junior years between 1989 and 1993 with the Regina Pats in the Western Hockey League . In the 1992 NHL Entry Draft , the right-handed shooter was drawn as No. 36 in the second round by the Chicago Blackhawks , his first NHL game he completed in the 1993/94 season , in which he scored his first three goals in 52 games in the North American professional league scored. After he was repeatedly used in the International Hockey League at Indianapolis Ice , Shantz was a permanent member of the Blackhawks' squad from the 1995/96 season .
Other NHL stations were the Calgary Flames between 1998 and 2992 and the Colorado Avalanche in the 2002/03 season , before the Canadian moved to the SCL Tigers in Switzerland in the summer of 2003 . During the playoffs of the 2003-04 season he reinforced the EHC Biel in the National League B . In 2005 Shantz moved on to the Adler Mannheim in the German Ice Hockey League . Due to a cartilage injury in his knee and a meniscus damage, the Canadian was out for several months in the summer of 2006, but returned to the ice in the middle of the season, won the German championship with the Eagles and was named Most Valuable Player of the play-offs . His contract in Mannheim runs until 2008. On May 5, 2008, the EC KAC announced the commitment of Jeff Shantz for the 2008/09 season. The 34-year-old center signed a one-year contract with the Austrian record champions and ended his career with the KAC in 2011.
International
For the Canadian U20 national team , Shantz was active in seven games at the Junior World Cup in 1993 and scored two goals. At the end of the tournament, he and the team won the gold medal. For the men's association selection he competed in the Spengler Cup in 2003 and 2004 . At the 2004 World Cup , the striker was part of the squad, but remained unused when he won the world title alongside Jamie Heward as one of two players in the squad.
