Janne Kristian Laukkanen (* 19th March 1970 in Lahti ) is a retired Finnish ice hockey player , who in his active period from 1987 to 2003, including for the Quebec Nordiques , Colorado Avalanche , Ottawa Senators , Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League has played.
Career
Janne Laukkanen began his career as a hockey player in the youth of Reipas Lahti , for whose professional team he was active from 1988 to 1991, first in the second-class I divisioona and after promotion in the 1989/90 season in the SM-liiga . He was then selected in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round as a total of 156 players from the Québec Nordiques . Initially, the defender stayed in Finland for three more years, playing for HPK Hämeenlinna , with whom he was runner-up in the 1992/93 season. In addition, the left shooter was in the 1993/94 season in three playoff games for HC České Budějovice in the newly founded Czech Extra League on the ice.
In the 1994/95 season Laukkanen made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Québec Nordiques, for which he scored four scorer points in 17 games. The rest of the season he spent with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Cornwall Aces . The following season began the Finn in the successor franchise , the Colorado Avalanche . For the team that won the Stanley Cup at the end of the season, he played three games, but switched to their league rivals Ottawa Senators during the current season , with whom he stayed until 2000. It was followed by three years with the Pittsburgh Penguins before the Finn was transferred to the New York Rangers in early 2003 , for their AHL farm team, the Hartford Wolf Pack , he gave three assists in five games before he started his career at the Tampa Bay Lightning finished, for which he met in four games until the end of the season.
Following his playing career, Laukkanen worked in the 2004/05 season as an assistant coach for the Espoo Blues in the SM-liiga. In the 2007/08 season, the former NHL professional worked in the coaching team of the lower class team VG-62.
International
For Finland Laukkanen took part in the U20 Junior World Championship in 1990 , as well as the World Championships in 1992 , 1993 , 1994 and 1998 . He was also in Finland's squad at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer in 1994 and in Nagano in 1998 , and at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey .
