Career
Chris McAlpine began his career as a hockey player in the team of the University of Minnesota , for which he was active from 1990 to 1994 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With his team he won the championship of the university league Western Collegiate Hockey Association in 1993 and 1994 . Especially in the 1993/94 season he was able to convince and was named the most valuable player in the WCHA, as well as being elected to the league's first all-star team. As a high school player, the defender was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the seventh round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft as the 137th player . For this he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1994/95 season and immediately won the prestigious Stanley Cup with the Devils in his rookie year . In parallel, he came to 48 appearances for New Jersey's farm team , the Albany River Rats , in the American Hockey League , with which he won the Calder Cup . In the following year and a half he only ran for the River Rats in the AHL and was eventually transferred to the St. Louis Blues .
From February 1997 to January 2000, McAlpine played regularly for the St. Louis Blues in the NHL. He then had two short-term engagements with the NHL teams of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Atlanta Thrashers , before he was signed as a free agent by the Chicago Blackhawks on July 27, 2000 . For these, as well as for their AHL farm team Norfolk Admirals , he competed in the following two years before he also joined the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent in August 2002 . For the Californians and their AHL farm team Manchester Monarchs , however, he was only able to play a total of 24 games because he suffered a hernia in an NHL game against the San Jose Sharks in January 2003 . On September 11, 2003, the American signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Wild , but announced his resignation a little later without having denied a single mission for the team. Finally he laced his skates again towards the end of the 2004/05 season in a total of 24 games for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks from the AHL. He then officially ended his career at the age of 33.
