Trent Thomas Klatt (born January 30, 1971 in Robbinsdale , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach and scout , who played 856 games for the Minnesota North Stars , Dallas Stars , during his playing career between 1989 and 2004 , Philadelphia Flyers , Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings played in the National Hockey League on the right winger position .
Career
Klatt played during his high school years between 1986 and 1989 for the Osseo Senior High School . After finishing high school, where he was honored with the Minnesota Mr. Hockey award after the last season , the striker was selected in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round in 82nd position by the Washington Capitals . He then moved to the University of Minnesota . For their ice hockey team he played the following three years until the spring of 1992 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .
During his college days, the transfer rights to Klatt's person had been transferred together with Steve Maltais from the Washington Capitals to the Minnesota North Stars in June 1991 . In return, the capital club received Shawn Chambers . The American made his NHL debut for the North Stars at the end of the 1991/92 season . The following season he then commuted between the NHL team and the farm team in the International Hockey League , the Kalamazoo Wings . For the 1993/94 game year , the North Stars moved to Dallas and henceforth operated under the name Dallas Stars . There the striker was a regular player until December 1995 before he was given to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Brent Fedyk . There he found a new sporting home for the following three years and reached the final of the Stanley Cup with the team in the 1996/97 season , where the Flyers were subject to the Detroit Red Wings . In addition, he set a career record this season with 45 scorer points .
In October 1998, the Flyers separated from their winger shortly after the start of the season and exchanged him for a six-round suffrage for the Vancouver Canucks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft . For the franchise from the Canadian west coast, Klatt was active until the end of the 2002/03 season - only interrupted by a long period in the farm team Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League in the 1999/2000 season and a protracted stomach injury in the 2001/02 season . He finally played his last professional season in the 2003/04 season with the Los Angeles Kings , where he signed up as a free agent for the next two years. He finished the first season in the Kings jersey with 43 points scorer. Since the following game year fell completely victim to the lockout , Klatt did not play any further missions. In September 2005, at the age of 34, he officially announced the end of his active career.
After a break of several years, Klatt returned to ice hockey in 2008. He initially worked as an assistant coach at Grand Rapids High School and also took a position as development coach with the New York Islanders from the NHL for the 2009/10 season , which he held until the summer of 2015. In the meantime, between 2012 and 2015, he was also director of the scouting department for the amateur sector. Since 2015, the American has only worked as an amateur scout for the franchise and has been training the Grand Rapids High School ice hockey team at the same time . He had already worked there as an assistant trainer until summer 2010.
International
For his home country Klatt played in the junior division at the Junior World Championship in Canada in 1991 . At the end of the single round with eight teams, the Americans finished fourth and narrowly missed a medal. Klatt himself was the second best scorer of his team with twelve points in seven games and seventh best overall. For the men's national team , the striker played the 1999 World Cup in Norway . There the US boys took sixth place. Klatt scored three goals during the tournament.
