Brent Fedyk (born March 3, 1967 in Yorkton , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey striker who was active in the National Hockey League for the Detroit Red Wings , Philadelphia Flyers , Dallas Stars and New York Rangers .
Career
Brent Fedyk began his career in 1983 with the Regina Pats from the Canadian Junior League WHL . He played there a solid first season with 43 points in 63 games and moved with the team to the final of the playoffs , where they were subject to the Kamloops Junior Oilers . In the following two years Fedyk developed into a good two-way striker with skills on the offensive and defensive, which is why he was selected in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings in the first round in eighth position.
In his fourth season with the juniors he was transferred in 1986 from the Regina Pats within the WHL to the Seattle Thunderbirds , who gave him after only 13 games to the Portland Winter Hawks . In 1987 Fedyk made his professional debut and spent most of the season in the AHL with the Adirondack Red Wings , the Detroit farm team at the time . In his second year at Adirondack he was already one of the leading players, scoring 40 goals in 66 games and preparing another 28 goals. At the end of the season he won the Calder Cup with the team , scoring a hat trick in the decisive 10-7 win over the New Haven Nighthawks .
After Fedyk had already played seven times for Detroit in the NHL in addition to his appearances for the Adirondack Red Wings in his first two years , he was allowed to play for Detroit more often in the 1989/90 season, but still spent half of the season in the AHL. In 1990 he finally made it into the regular squad of the Detroit Red Wings and scored 35 points scorer in 67 games. In his second season in the NHL his productivity declined and he was transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers in the fall of 1992 .
In Philadelphia he experienced a significant increase and played the best season of his NHL career with 21 goals and 38 assists . In 1993/94 he was able to partially build on the performances when he again reached the mark of 20 goals this season, but his points yield continued to decline in the following season. In December 1995, he was sent to the Dallas Stars in a transfer deal , where he ended the season. Although he managed to reach the 20-goal mark for the third time in his career, he did not receive a contract extension in the summer of 1996.
The other NHL teams also did not want to sign Fedyk and so he played in nine games for the Michigan K-Wings from the second-rate IHL in the 1996/97 season . He also spent the following year in the IHL, playing for the Detroit Vipers and the Cincinnati Cyclones . With good performances and 75 points scorer in 66 games, he was able to recommend himself again and received an NHL contract from the New York Rangers .
The 1998/99 season should finally have been his last season in the NHL and he came in 67 games to four goals and six assists. In summer 1999 he moved to Europe in the DEL to the Kassel Huskies and ended his career in 2000.
