Douglas "Doug" Brown (born June 12, 1964 in Southborough , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 963 games for the New Jersey Devils , Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings in the course of his active career between 1982 and 2001 has played in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger . In the service of the Detroit Red Wings, Brown won the Stanley Cup twice in 1997 and 1998 . His brother Greg was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Doug Brown began his career as a hockey player in the team at Boston College , for which he was active from 1982 to 1986 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In his last two university years he was elected to the second All-Star Team of Hockey East . Then the winger was on August 6, 1986 as a free agent by the New Jersey Devils contracted for which he in the next seven years in the National Hockey League played, and he in his rookie year, mainly for their farm team , the Maine Mariners of the American Hockey League , stood on the ice. In the following years he was only used sporadically in New Jersey's new AHL farm team Utica Devils , as he was able to fight for a regular place in the NHL team.

The 1993/94 season Brown spent with the Pittsburgh Penguins . He then played until his retirement at the age of 37 in the summer of 2001 with their league rivals Detroit Red Wings . With the Michigan team , he won the prestigious Stanley Cup twice in a row in 1997 and 1998 .

Brown was selected by the Nashville Predators in the 1998 NHL Expansion Draft , but was sent back to the Red Wings in a barter a few weeks later. In exchange, Petr Sýkora and a third-round vote were given to the Predators.

International

For the United States Brown participated in the world championships in 1986 , 1989 , 1991 and 2001 and at the 1991 Canada Cup in part.
