Career
Ridley played successfully during his junior years for the St. Boniface Saints in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and then at the University of Manitoba in the Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union , where he received numerous awards between 1983 and 1985. Undrafted he was taken in the summer of 1985 by the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League under contract. In his rookie season , the striker impressed with 65 points in 80 games. This gave him the election to the NHL All-Rookie Team at the end of the season . Also in the following season Ridley was a constant point collector and reached by the turn of the year 1986/87 36 points in 38 games. Nevertheless, the Rangers separated from their attacker when he was given to the Washington Capitals with Bob Crawford and Kelly Miller for Bobby Carpenter as well as a second-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 .
Ridley spent eight and a half successful years at the capital club. His personally most successful was the game year 1988/89 , in which he scored 89 points in 80 games. This made him the best scorer of the Capitals. He was also invited to the NHL All-Star Game . Before the 1994/95 season , Ridley was again part of a barter deal. Together with a first-round suffrage in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 , he moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Rob Pearson and a first-round suffrage in the same draft . After the season shortened by the lockout , the Maple Leafs separated from Ridley and exchanged him for Sergio Momesso from the Vancouver Canucks .
At the Canucks, Ridley had bad luck with injuries and he fell out of large parts of the 1995/96 season . Although he was able to achieve a remarkable mark again with 52 scorer points in the following season, due to persistent problems he ended his career shortly after the start of the 1997/98 season with the Manitoba Moose in the International Hockey League .
